Another nice city park nearby is Lake Pflugerville. I can honestly call this place a lake as it is about 3-4x bigger than Hutto Lake Park. It has a hike/bike path around it, too, but I think it's something like 3 miles - maybe more. My first time there I parked in the main lot in the northeast part of the lake and walked all the way around. Halfway through, I was already tired.
Lake Pflugerville has a lot more options as far as fishing than Hutto Lake Park. Hutto LAke Park has a lot of vegetation on the south, west and north ends making it difficult to bank fish in those areas. Lake Pflugerville, on the other hand, has very little vegetation around the edges so you can fish about anywhere. Plus they have several piers you can use to fish as well. In the month of MArch, I went there several times to fish, but, unfortunately, I struck out each time. I did get a fish once but as soon as it got about 3' from the bank, I lost it. It looked like a bass, but kind of hard to tell since it never really broke the top of the water. I've heard other fishermen catch some pretty nice sized bass in that lake, but for some reason I kept getting skunked whenever I went. So I decided to go back to Hutto Lake Park to try to see if I could land something more than a crappie.
