I purchased a $30 Zebco Catfish Fighter spinning rod+reel and a couple of boxes of various lures. I haven't been fishing in years, and had to start all over again, but instead of buying an expensive rod, reel, tackle box, lures, etc., I decided to go cheap in case I have to hang it up again.
Hutto Lake ParkOn my first trip, I decided to hit up a local pond in Hutto called Hutto Lake Park. The land it sits on used to belong to a farmer, but he sold it to a developer in the early 2000's and the surrounding land became the Lakeside Estates subdivision. The "lake" (it's actually a large pond) remained untouched until the City of Hutto decided to turn it into a city park. They cleaned it up, added a small playground, gazebos with picnic benches and grills, and a small but nice area for parties and what-not. They also created a really nice path around the lake/pond for joggers and bicyclists. I believe it's a mile around the shortest trail and 1.25 miles around the extended trail (not 100% sure, though). Another nice thing they did is add a floating dock on the east side of the lake/pond. Here are some pictures of the lake/pond I took:
